FOV ANNUAL Meeting

You are invited and urged to attend our Annual Meeting scheduled for Thurs. Jan. 26th at the Livermore Public Library at 1188 S. Livermore Ave. at 7:00 pm. In addition to our regular business agenda, we will have a guest speaker, Jim Ryan, President of the Winegrower's Association, who will give a talk on the history of the wine industry in the Livermore Valley.  It should be interesting to hear how it all started considering how it has grown! Light Refreshments and wine will be served.

It is time for our annual election for the Friends of the Vineyards Board of Directors. We have  candidates for both open seats, David Furst, who was appointed to fill a vacancy this year, and David Jonas, who comes to us from Friends of Livermore.

Friends of the Vineyards was founded in 1981, originally as “Save the Vineyards,” in an effort to stop development from taking over and pushing out our local vineyards and wineries. We are active participants in the founding of the South Livermore Valley Area Plan (SLVAP, a specific Alameda County plan for our area) and County Measure ‘D’ which ensures the preservation and enlargement of the vineyard/winery area and limits development outside of city boundaries. Friends of the Vineyards supports Tri-Valley Conservancy, founded under SLVAP. Because we are one of the stakeholders, we appoint one of the Conservancy’s board members. The conservancy holds conservation easements on vineyard land, thus preserving them against future development in perpetuity– one of our major goals. We look for further preservation and extension of the vineyards and other agricultural uses and open spaces, with current emphasis on North Livermore.

The FOV Board is pleased with the South Livermore Plan & Tri-Valley Conservancy's stewardship of the land through conservation easements.
